Bordering Guatemala, Finca Muxbal is located in southern Chiapas in Mexico and is surrounded by the Tacana and Tajumulco volcanoes; which provide rich mineral content for the soil. In the local Mame language, Muxbal means ‘place sourrounded by the clouds’ as it sits high up on a raised and flat plateau. The farm covers 236 hectars, however, 40% of this land is a nature reserve which is home to a huge variety of wildlife: hummingbirds, quetzals, wildcats armadillos, coral snakes, parrots and pizotes to name a few! The Zarco and Muxbal rivers flow through this land and bring fresh water to the plantation. This leaves a remainder of 140 hectares for growing and processing the coffee. The owner Jorge recently invested a significant amount of money into drying beds as well as large drying area to process higher volumes of specialty grade coffees. These processes include washed, honey and natural.
