Colombia - Divino Nino

Cooperativa Divino Niño del Horizonte, colloquially known as ‘Divino Niño’, are based in Suaza, Huila, near the Colombian Massif, and have grown quickly from 25 producers to 50 in the last three years. Edilma Polania Bermeo is the president of the group and together they work towards facilitating meaningful growth for the co-operative, and the cultivation of incredible, striking coffees.

This select micro-lot is the ‘pink bourbon’ variety, also known as ‘bourbon rosado’, which is closely related to Ethiopian Landrace/ heirloom varietals; and is a hybrid of yellow and red bourbon. As a recessive varietal, growing Pink Bourbon cherries consistently, is challenging. Special care has been taken to look for subtle nuances of colour and hand-pick cherries at the exact moment of ripening. In addition to meticulous coffee plant care, the farmers must isolate their crops to encourage cross-pollination.

This is our maiden collaboration with Osito, who relationally source coffee from Colombia and beyond. Their home is Huila, this is their focus and they are part of the fabric of the region. This is where they place their greatest focus, and where owner Jose Jadir Losada was born.

To drive quality, bring the community together, and connect buyers and growers, they also launched a brand-new cupping competition ‘Copa de Occidente’ in 2021, which was widely successful and continues to progress coffee standards in the region.

Divino Nino is unique. It is beautifully sweet and silky, with bright, subtle acidity notes, and soft delicate florals.
