When Craft House was created, the main aim was to find what makes amazing coffee. For us, the best way to find this out is to understand the process from farm to cup. The inspiration behind this project is to understand and explore 2 crucial steps in sourcing, find out more HERE:
If a packet of coffee is marked with Infrastructure, this means the coffee is bought though a direct relationship with this coffee producer.
Finding ways to live more environmentally friendly is a mission for absolutely everyone nowadays. We are all concerned about buying produce which doesn’t just taste amazing, but leaves as little impact on our planet as possible. As you may know, coffee is not grown in the UK but requires a hot climate to grow properly. This means that all the coffee you drink has probably been transported from Central America, South America or Africa. This requires a lot of air miles. Plus, farming standards are slipping all around the world, so sourcing your coffee from reputable, environmentally friendly farms has never been more vital. Buying local means you can ask questions about the farming practices of the coffee farms, where exactly the beans come from, and their environmental impact on our planet.
Often, coffee is grown in countries where large corporations can take advantage of low employment rates, hiring people on unfair wages and with poor working conditions. Similarly to the farming standards, local coffee roasters source coffee only from ethical farms who pay and treat their workers at a high standard. Local roasters will have experienced first hand how the coffee is farmed, packaged and transported. This means that you can enjoy your morning cup of delicious coffee, without unethical practices on your conscience.
For coffee enthusiasts, coffee is not just a drink, it’s a hobby. Chatting to your local barista or coffee shop owner can give you enriching insights into the wonderful world of coffee. Learning to extract an amazing espresso from a real espresso machine is super satisfying that many coffee lovers eventually invest in coffee equipment for their own kitchens. You can attend courses, learn how to perfect beautiful latte art, and learn even more about this amazing plant which gives us so much joy.
Making the change and switching to a local coffee wholesaler will bring you insight, wisdom, environmental kudos and, of course, better taste. Tell your friends, spread the word, post it out on your social media - local coffee is the only way to go.
All of our coffee is roasted in small batches just outside of Brighton, in Wivelsfield Green, Sussex on our 30kg Giesen coffee roaster. Trading closely through speciality coffee importers who share the same culture as we do, we believe its about developing relationships with our partners to better understand the product we buy.
